Song Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Well, it's a marvelous night for a Moondance
With the stars up above in your eyes
A fantabulous night to make romance
'Neath the cover of October skies
And all the leaves on the trees are falling
To the sound of the breezes that blow
And I'm trying to please to the calling
Of your heart-strings that play soft and low
And all the night's magic seems to whisper and hush
And all the soft moonlight seems to shine in your blush

[Chorus]
Can I just have one more Moondance with you, my love
Can I just make some more romance with you, my love

[Verse 2]
Well, I want to make love to you tonight
I can't wait 'til the morning has come
And I know now the time is just right
And straight into my arms you will run
And when you come my heart will be waiting
To make sure that you're never alone
There and then all my dreams will come true dear
There and then I will make you my own
And every time I touch you, you just tremble inside
Then I know how much you want me that, you can't hide

[Chorus]
Can I just have one more Moondance with you, my love
Can I just make some more romance with you, my love

[Interlude]

[Verse 1 repeat]
Well, it's a marvelous night for a Moondance
With the stars up above in your eyes
A fantabulous night to make romance
'Neath the cover of October skies
And all the leaves on the trees are falling
To the sound of the breezes that blow
And I'm trying to please to the calling
Of your heart-strings that play soft and low
And all the night's magic seems to whisper and hush
And all the soft moonlight seems to shine in your blush

[Chorus]
Can I just have one more Moondance with you, my love
Can I just make some more romance with you, my love

[Outro]
One more Moondance with you - in the moonlight
On a magic night
La, la, la, la in the moon-light
On a magic night
Can I just have one more Moondance with you my love

Van Morrison, in 1985, related the song to a quasi-mystical experience he had as a child:
I suppose I was about twelve years old. We used to go to a place called Ballystockart to fish. We stopped in the village on the way up to this place and I went to this little stone house, and there was an old man there with dark weather-beaten skin, and we asked him if he had any water. He gave us some water which he said he'd got from the stream. We drank some and everything seemed to stop for me. Time stood still. For five minutes everything was really quiet and I was in this 'other dimension'. That's what the song is about.

During this song, Morrison sings "...Stoned me just like Jelly Roll. And it stoned me." That lyric is thought to be a reference to jazz musician Jelly Roll Morton, whose recordings Morrison listened to with his father as he was growing up.

[Verse 1]
Half a mile from the county fair
And the rain came pourin' down
Me and Bullet standin' there
With a silver half a crown
Hands are full of a fishin' rod
And the tackle on our backs
We just stood there gettin' wet
With our backs against the fence

[Pre-Chorus 1]
Oh, the water
Oh, the water
Oh, the water
Hope it don't rain all-day

[Chorus]
And it stoned me to my soul
Stoned me just like Jelly Roll
And it stoned me
And it stoned me to my soul
Stoned me just like goin' home
And it stoned me

[Verse 2]
And the rain let up and the sun came out
And we were gettin' dry
Almost let a pick-up truck nearly pass us by
So we jumped right in and the driver grinned
And he dropped us up the road
Yeah, we looked at the swim and we jumped right in
Not to mention fishing poles

[Pre-Chorus 2]
Oh, the water
Oh, the water
Oh, the water
Let it run all over me

[Chorus]
And it stoned me to my soul
Stoned me just like Jelly Roll
And it stoned me
And it stoned me to my soul
Stoned me just like going home
And it stoned me

[Instrumental Verse]

[Verse 3]
On the way back home we sang a song
But our throats were getting dry
Then we saw the man from across the road
With the sunshine in his eyes
Well he lived all alone in his own little home
With a great big gallon jar
There were bottles too, one for me and you
And he said "Hey! There you are"

[Pre-Chorus 3]
Oh, the water
Oh, the water
Oh, the water
Get it myself from the mountain stream

[Chorus]
Yet it stoned me to my soul
Stoned me just like Jelly Roll
And it stoned me
And it stoned me to my soul
Stoned me just like going home
And it stoned me

And it sto-o-ned me to my soul
Stoned me just like Jelly Roll
And it stoned me
And it sto-o-o-ned me to my soul
Stoned me just like going home
And it stoned me

Sweet Baby James - words and music by James Taylor
Instrumental Intro10 beats
Verse 1
There is a young cowboy, he lives on the range
His horse and his cattle are his only companions
He works in the saddle and sleeps in the canyons
Waiting for summer, his pastures to change
As the moon rises he sits by his fire
Thinking about women and glasses of beer
Closing his eyes as the doggies retire
He sings out a song which is soft but it's clear
As if maybe someone could hear
Instrumental Interlude10 beats

Chorus
Goodnight you moonlight ladies
Rock-a-bye sweet baby James
Deep greens and blues are the colors I choose
Won't you let me go down in my dreams
And rock-a-bye sweet baby James

Verse 2
no rest
Now the first of December was covered with snow
So was the turnpike from Stockbridge to Boston
The Berkshires seemed dream-like on account of that frosting
ten miles behind me and ten thousand more to go
There's a song that they sing when they take to the highway
A song that they sing when they take to the sea
a song that they sing of their home in the sky,
maybe you can believe it if it helps you to sleep,
but singing works just fine for me

Chorus
4 beat rest
Goodnight you moonlight ladies
Rockabye sweet baby James
Deep greens and blues are the colors I choose
Won't you let me go down in my dreams
And rock-a-bye sweet baby James

Blackbird - from Words in the Bucket
So, basically, Blackbird was inspired by the racial tensions that exploded in the US on spring 1968 as a symbolic way to support the efforts of the Civil Rights Movement.
McCartney underlined also that “bird” is a British slang often used for “girl”, which would make “blackbird” become “black girl”. This lexical sleight of hand combined with the events back in 1960s seem to refer to Rosa Parks, a black woman who, while on a bus, refused to give up her seat in the coloured section to a white passenger, after the white section was filled; she later become known as “the mother of the freedom movement”.
Anyway, this song can be used as a song of freedom in any circumstances. It sings that even if you are not free; if you live in darkness; if your wings are broken and your eyes sunken, that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t try to arise, fly and follow the light that can be found in even in the darkest nights.
Notably, Blackbird is one of the top ten most-recorded covers of all time.

I once had a girl
Or should I say, she once had me?
She showed me her room
"Isn't it good, Norwegian wood?"
interlude

I once had a girl
Or should I say, she once had me?
She showed me her room
"Isn't it good, Norwegian wood?"

She asked me to stay and she told me to sit anywhere
So I looked around and I noticed there wasn't a chair
I sat on the rug
Biding my time, drinking her wine
We talked until two
And then she said, "It's time for bed"

She told me she worked in the morning and started to laugh
I told her I didn't and crawled off to sleep in the bath

And when I awoke
I was alone, this bird had flown
So I lit a fire
Isn't it good, Norwegian wood?

Lady Madonna
Children at your feet
Wonder how you manage to make ends meet.
Who finds the money
When you pay the rent?
Did you think that money was Heaven sent?

Friday night arrives without a suitcase.
Sunday morning creeping like a nun.
Monday's child has learned to tie his bootlace.
See how they run.

Lady Madonna,
Baby at your breast
Wonder how you manage to feed the rest.

instrumental interlude
See how they run.

Lady Madonna, Lying on the bed.
listen to the music playing in your head

Tuesday afternoon is never-ending.
Wednesday morning papers didn't come.
Thursday night your stockings needed mending.
See how they run.

Lady Madonna,
Children at your feet
Wonder how you manage to make ends meet.

After Midnight - as sung by J. J. Cale
After midnight
We're gonna let it all hang out
After midnight
We gonna chugalug and shout
We're gonna cause talk and suspicion
Give an exhibition
Find out what it is all about

After midnight
We gonna let it all hang out
After midnight
Gonna shake your tambourine
After midnight
Gonna be peaches & cream
We're gonna cause talk and suspicion
Give an exhibition
gonna find out what it is all about

After midnight
We gonna let it all hang out
